Busy Girl

Filed Under (Wander Girl, Worker Bee) by iris on 26-07-2008

No, I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth yet again, and I do intend to write something meaningful soon-ish. For the moment, however, this girl is very, very busy and very, very tired, so this sort of cursory update will have to do for now.

This month has been a very hectic one for me. Sixteen days ago, I took a quick day trip to Cambodia to get a 30-day stamp on my passport. A week later found me and my man in Koh Chang for the mini holiday from hell – one that I’ll have to write about, and soon. And last Wednesday, we were off to Vientiane, Laos for another visa run. That’s way too much land travel, even for this Wander Girl, so I’m quite happy to give my trusty backpack – and my feet - a bit of a rest for at least a couple of months or so.

Work wise, I experienced a bit of a dip on my regular income for the past couple of months, so I had no choice but to take on some additional freelance work. I am still, however, by no means secure, so I decided to also take on a part-time job teaching kids how to write. I’ve only been on the job for a couple of days, but it’s been great so far; and apart from the horrendous commute I have to go through every day, I have no complaints.

So why am I working so hard? Well, apart from the obvious ‘because I can’ answer, it’s because I just can’t be idle. Plus, I’m saving up for a MacBook, so for now, it’s all work, work, and work for me. That is, until I keel over from exhaustion, possibly in the middle of Silom. Now that would be something interesting to write about.

I’m babbling, I know. Must get some sleep.

  1. WoW Iris your life sounds so exciting. Getting to travel all over the world. I have only been to PI and Mexico and of couse USA. You sound like a very talented person. When you get the chance you will have to write about you mini holiday from hell. As always all the best to you and yours dear friend. :-)

  2. Whatever you do, do not pass out in the middle of Silom. Those horried Thais you thumped with an umbrella have clones all over Silom; you might wake up and find yourself gainfully employed in the red light district.

Busy is okay, but take care of yourself, hear? I’ve very few friends, and I’m not keen on losing the one I talk the most frequently to. This is morbid talk, but seriously, busy bee, do not kill yourself with work. =)

  3. Heya Iris,
You really sound like you are keeping yourself so busy there is no time for fun.

Remember to take an hour each day to just chill out and do something for yourself so that you do not let any stress build up.

However at the same time the new job teaching kids to read sounds like it is really rewarding which must be a big plus.

I look forward to hearing about your holiday.

  4. @Bill: Well, it’s not exactly all over the world. More like, all over SE Asia, and it’s really not as exciting as it seems. I’m still working on the all over the world thing. ;-)

@Chin: ‘Gainfully employed’ - I like that. Well, at least I know I have an alternative career path if I ever find myself fired yet again. LOL. Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere. :-D

@Stuart: I do intend to, or else this blog is going to turn very dull indeed. Thanks for stopping by! :-)

  5. Okay, finally tried to learn how ftp works. I think I understand it a little better now. Finally uploaded themes on my own, without waking the hub up.

Now, if only I could figure out how google analytics works! You’re now officially my blogging tech support. Teehee!

  6. What can I say? We all need to work especially with prices soaring to high heavens here in the Philippines.
Sometimes, I wish that I married for the money, not for the love and great sex (sigh)

  7. I’m looking forward to hearing about the holiday from hell. Did it involve being chased through the rainforest by machette weilding Klongies? Did you have to swim across shark infested waters to escape. I can see it now, first the best selling novel, then the movie, Escape from Elephant Island. Seriously, I want to know!

  8. hi honey! nice to see you’re back to blogging. i was seriously wondering what ever happened to you until i found your link on matt’s blog. i’m glad you’re settling well in BKK.

reading through your previous posts, i kind of agree with some of your opinion about the locals. you’re just more courageous to write about your thoughts bluntly (i can’t dare do that).

i’d surely check your blog as regularly as i can. cheers, dear!
